Why is Fitness so Important to our Overall Health

Fitness is a comprehensive term that encapsulates physical well-being and mental well-being. In order for a person to be mentally well, the body must also be in good working condition. And that is our focus on today’s article – the definition of physical fitness from a holistic perspective.

Importance of Personal Fitness

Being fit has so many advantages. In addition to looking good and feeling good, inside and out, you are also at less risk for deadly, degenerative diseases like diabetes and coronary heart disease.

The top killers in the United States are diseases associated directly with one’s weight and lifestyle – cancer, diabetes, stroke, heart attack… The list goes on. You can choose to wait for these chronic diseases to take over your life, or you can choose to act now to save yourself from years of painful and expensive treatments.

Identifying and surmounting challenges to fitness goals


You need a fitness program or fitness regimen to keep you on track. The first step in designing an effective fitness program is to find out first what you like about physical fitness.

After identifying what you like about regular exercise, dieting, etc. you must then identify what you don’t like about the whole process. This short list of likes and dislikes will give you a glimpse of the challenges ahead – but take note, these are surmountable challenges to your fitness goals.

And this is your next task – creating yet another list of strategies that will help you surmount these challenges. For example, a common problem with weight loss and fitness in general is the kind of diet the person has been habituated to follow for years.

A practical strategy to surmount this obstacle to a fitness goal (e.g. lose weight in 2 months) is to change the factors that contribute to it. A person can choose to reduce the number of sweets (chocolates, etc.) that are normally part of the weekly/monthly grocery list. You can use the same techniques when engaging in physical activities later on.

Getting started: stretch those muscles!

One of the most powerful exercises around is stretching. Not only is stretching healthy and a pre-requisite to good posture in old age, but it also directly contributes to one’s balance immediately.

In addition to preserving muscle tone and flexibility, stretching also half dose propecia helps in increasing one’s range of motion. Since stretching involves frequent muscular contraction and relaxation, it is also a great stress reliever.

Advanced fitness: aerobics

Aerobics is great for weight loss and is one of the few exercises that can be done a few minutes per day with the same great benefits.
